Earliest Example Of A Rapid Fire Tongue Found In ‘weird And Wonderful’ Extinct Amphibians
While the first field guide in 2008 included about 12 species in the Amphibian List of Cambodia, several changes in name and classification of species have also occurred and this process continues. However, in 2021 all previously unknown species found in Cambodia have been named and several expected species have been recorded. It seemed like the right time to publish a new, more detailed field guide, and many of the frogs featured here are appearing in book form for the first time. It is encouraging that not a single amphibian species has disappeared from Cambodia in the past decade. Instead, we saw a nearly 17% increase in the total number of recorded species. This figure includes both new science species and new records for Cambodia. During all the field trips made while collecting material for this book, new discoveries were made. As a land of seasonal rains and floods, the people of Cambodia have always shared a common vision with amphibians. Even today, large parts of Cambodia are still relatively undeveloped and have a predominantly rural population. As a result, most Khmers are familiar with amphibians. This may include eating frogs that have entered the house, frogs in the bathroom, or frogs that have been given a protein supplement. Frogs are also a part of Khmer culture that dominated stories and parables and are featured in the Angkor complex’s giant stone frog at Kabal Span. PHNOM PENH, March 25, 2024 – In an exciting development for wildlife conservation, a research team from the Ministry of Environment has reported the discovery of a large number of reptiles and amphibians in Banon District, Baten District, Phnom Khembor District. Among the findings are indications that some species were previously unknown, opening the door to the identification of new species.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Environment on March 22, 2008, he emphasized that identification and identification of these species will be completed by completing genetic analysis and in-depth data collection efforts. This study is an important part of wider activities aimed at conserving biodiversity and developing a comprehensive conservation and management plan for the Phnom Penh region.
This activity is part of a joint effort with FFI Cambodia (Fauna and Flora International in Cambodia) to better understand and reduce the risk of infectious diseases by focusing on the study of these species. This discovery highlights the importance of continued environmental research and conservation efforts, as the discovery of new species shows the rich biodiversity in Cambodia’s natural habitat. The museum will reopen. Until then, we hope you enjoyed these amphibian and reptile activities! Did you know that Leo is a creep? Learn more in the activities below!

Chameleons are reptiles that blend their colors with their surroundings. Two hundred and seventy-eight million years ago, the world was a different place. Not only did the land masses merge into the supercontinent Pangaea, but the land was home to ancient animals unlike what exists today. But until now, very little was known about the animals found in the southern tropics. In a study that
Fire Frogs” And Eel Like Amphibians: The Field Museum’s Brazilian Fossil Discovery
Field Museum scientists and colleagues from around the world will describe several new species of amphibians and reptiles from northeastern Brazil to fill this key geographic gap and show how animals moved across the supercontinent.
“Almost all of our knowledge of land animals from this time comes from a few areas in North America and western Europe that were near the equator,” said Field Museum scientist Ken Angielczyk, one of the paper’s authors. Now finally information is obtained about the type of animals that existed in the far south and their similarities and differences with animals living in the tropical region.

Although he did not live in fire – he spent his entire life in water. It is named after the Pedra de Fogo (“Fire Stone”) formation, so named for the presence of the rock. Although both species are distant relatives of modern salamanders, they are not true frogs or salamanders, but members of a common extinction group during the Permian period.
